Inspiring the Next Generation at Southend-on-Sea College Freshers Fair
We were delighted to attend our second student engagement event with the South Essex Colleges Group, joining students at the Southend-on-Sea College Freshers Fair.
The Auburn Group team spent the afternoon speaking with students about the construction industry, the diverse career pathways available and the exciting projects we’re delivering across the Southend area.
Representing Auburn Group were Assistant Site Manager Luke Miles, General Operative William Kennard and Marketing Manager Deb Ellis. Together, they shared their own experiences of working in construction, answered students’ questions and offered an insight into what it’s really like to build a career within the industry.
Exploring Careers in Construction
Events like the Freshers Fair provide a valuable opportunity to show young people just how many different career paths the construction industry can offer.
While construction is often associated with skilled trades and site-based roles, the sector also offers opportunities across project management, commercial, design, marketing and many other disciplines.
Whether students are interested in working hands-on, managing projects, developing creative ideas or supporting the wider business, there are career pathways to suit a wide range of interests, skills and ambitions.

Meeting students face-to-face allows us to share our experiences, challenge perceptions of the construction industry and demonstrate the rewarding careers available within the sector.
It also gives students the chance to learn more about the projects taking place in their local area, including the Southend Theatres projects we’re proud to be working on.
By engaging with students at an early stage, we hope to help them see construction as an exciting and rewarding industry where they can develop their skills, build a career and make a lasting contribution to their local community.
