Connecting, collaborating and growing in Essex! Last Thursday, our Marketing Manager Deb Ellis headed to The Boundary in Southend for a local networking event with Networking Essex It was a fantastic opportunity to meet local businesses, build connections, and share what Auburn Group is all about. We're always keen to connect with businesses and people, have great conversations, and explore exciting opportunities to work together.
Following completion of the school term, we are excited to announce that we have started 6 weeks possession over the summer break at Roding Primary School, Cannington Road, Dagenham. A lot is happening across the site, with works progressing across three key areas: Area A – Layout reconfiguration works are progressing, including extensive modifications to the existing CLT structural frame to suit the new forming of 2no. classrooms, pupil WC’s, group room, reception office and nursery entrance. Area B – Within the Mezzanine and Main Hall areas, classrooms are being reconfigured to create new offices for the Senior Leadership Team with drylining and MEP alterations well underway with existing grid and tile ceiling with a replacement perforated ceiling finish. Area C – Internal fitout works are progressing with the MEP, sprinklers, carpentry and decorations packages. Windows, External Doors and Single ply roofing system have been completed. Façade installation is being finalised with commencement of the install of the Benx rainscreen panel system ahead of scaffold removal. Thank you to everyone involved, and we’re looking forward to seeing the transformation continue over the coming weeks and delivering further progress ahead of the new school term.
We're proud to have supported Lift Plumberow Primary Academy, Hockley, by providing them with 14 small air conditioning units for the classrooms to help create a comfortable learning environment for both students and teachers throughout the warmer months and for when the children return to school after the school holidays. A cool classroom all year round means better focus, improved well-being, and a more enjoyable learning experience, allowing pupils to learn and thrive in comfort during the school day. One of the highlights of this project was receiving the wonderful hand-designed thank-you notes created by the children. Their thoughtful messages and colourful artwork were incredibly touching and reminded us why supporting our local schools is so important. At Auburn Group, we believe every child deserves an environment where they can reach their full potential. We're honoured to play a part in supporting our local community by investing in spaces that make a real difference to education. Auburn Group's housing development at the north end of Lundy Close, Eastwood, is making excellent progress, with construction continuing at a steady pace. Block work has been completed below ground up to DPC to enable block and beam installation on Plots 1 to 3, with works progressing well on Plots 4 and 5. Brickwork is scheduled to commence in mid-August, marking the next significant milestone as the house structures begin to take shape. It's encouraging to see this sustainable development progressing so well, delivering much-needed new homes for the local community. We look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses.
We were honoured to attend the Year 10 Careers Fair at Mossbourne Federation Fobbing, where the Auburn Group team had the opportunity to share insights into the construction industry and discuss the wide range of career pathways available to students. Events like these are invaluable in connecting with young people, showcasing the diverse opportunities that the construction industry has to offer. From health and safety, surveying and commercial roles to administration and skilled trades, construction provides rewarding careers that extend far beyond what many people traditionally associate with the sector. It was a privilege to speak with students about their future aspirations, answer their questions, and help them understand the many exciting possibilities available within our industry. It is inspiring to see young people building confidence, developing both creative and technical skills, and gaining first-hand exposure to live events and industry. A huge well done to everyone involved in making the evening such a valuable and engaging experience.

Auburn Group were delighted to welcome the children in years 4 & 5 from Dulwich Cranbrook Primary School on-site to our new upper prep building. The pupils had the exciting opportunity to leave their mark on the building by signing personal messages on the wooden beams before construction is completed. Not only will this create a lasting memory for the school to treasure for many years to come, but it is also something each pupil can carry with them into the future – and hopefully inspire some of them towards a career in the construction industry, knowing they have played a part in this special project. It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm and engagement from the next generation, and we are proud to have shared this experience with them.
We recently provided a site visit at Southend Theatres for year 9/10 students from THE SANDON SCHOOL ACADEMY TRUST in Chelmsford, giving them real, hands-on insight into the construction industry and a wide range of opportunities it offers. Our Site Manager Luke Miles hosted and shared his knowledge, giving the students a real insight into the construction side of the development of our projects. This visit was formed as part of the wider #BuildingaLastingLegacy initiative by Essex Growth Agency, a brilliant programme focused on creating meaningful social value and connecting young people with the industry. We are proud to have worked alongside Kirstie Forrester at Essex County Council and Helen Clements at Morgan Sindall Infrastructure to drive initiatives like this forward and support the next generation.
Great progress on site as the new Year 5 & 6 teaching block continues to take shape — a project proudly delivered by Auburn Group. Since taking possession, we’ve installed a full secure perimeter to ensure site safety, removed over 1,250 tonnes of material, completed all ducting for future services, installed both storm and foul drainage systems, 50m3 attenuation tank, progressed foundation brickwork up to DPC, and laid the block and beam flooring — all successfully delivered by Hooper and Sons Ltd, who have also organised and completed the CBR testing and installed the crane pad in line with the engineer’s design. The tower crane, supplied and erected by Mantis Cranes Ltd, on behalf of Progressive off-site, was delivered seamlessly. Meanwhile, the scaffold package was completed in an exceptionally short timeframe by KAS Scaffolding Limited — a testament to a fantastic team effort all around, ready for the OSKOP panel installation very shortly. A strong start to what will be a first-class new facility for the school.
We had the pleasure of attending the St Bernard’s High School careers fair in Westcliff yesterday morning, highlighting to the next generation of students the exciting career opportunities available in construction. The event, attended by students in Years 10, 11, and 13, saw an excellent turnout, with strong interest from those passionate about the industry. It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with the next generation of talent and showcase the wide range of roles available across the sector. We are proud to play a part in inspiring young people to explore the diverse and rewarding career opportunities that the construction industry has to offer.
Project Completion: Mayesbrook We’ve officially handed over the newly transformed space at Mayesbrook, and what a meaningful one it’s been. Known internally as the 'Rectory', this project involved the careful refurbishment of a listed building and the construction of a new gym and corridor extension. But beyond the brickwork, this was always about creating a place where young people with complex needs can feel safe, supported, and understood. Mayesbrook is a vital resource supporting families across the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, thoughtfully designed to nurture emotional regulation, independence and family connection. Every space has been considered with care, from therapy rooms to breakout areas, ensuring it supports both the young people and the professionals working alongside them. Seeing it complete, ready to welcome its first cohort, is a proud moment for the whole team. The building may have had many names in its time but it now has a clear purpose and a bright future. Huge thanks to everyone involved in making this happen. It’s been a privilege to help bring this vision to life.
It’s Time to Talk Day. An annual mental health awareness day led by Mind, a charity close to our hearts. It’s a simple reminder of something we all know, but don’t always make time for. Being mindful of how the people around us are really doing. A small check-in that can make a big difference. Today, we’re sending all of our teams a box of Krispy Kreme, encouraging teams on every site and in the office to take a proper pause. Step away from the job for a few minutes and actively ask someone how they are. Not in passing, properly. What better excuse for a time out than a Krispy Kreme... Because work in construction can be full-on. Long days, pressure to deliver, time away from home. It all adds up, whether we talk about it or not. Mental health deserves the same attention as physical safety. Catching things early, checking in, asking the question before things escalate, that’s often what stops small problems from becoming bigger ones. You don’t need to fix anything, you don’t need the right words just being willing to listen is often enough to make a big difference to someone. Good teams look out for each other, on site and off. So if you get the chance today, take five minutes, ask the question.
There’s something special about seeing this programme come to life. Last week, we welcomed the first HARP Homelessness Charity Construct cohort to Cliffs Pavilion for a hands-on site visit and a look at how a live construction project really works. The energy on site was brilliant, curiosity was everywhere, there were plenty of questions, and there was even a plug-wiring challenge that got a bit more competitive than expected! A huge thanks to Emma, Tony and Luke for putting real care into the day, and to Daisy the Dog, the cutest site mascot… who stole the show as usual. What matters most is what happened afterwards. The group left buzzing, with more confidence and greater certainty about the possibility of a future in construction. This is why the partnership with HARP means so much. It’s practical, people-focused, and it gives those ready to re-enter work a genuine pathway into the industry. We’re looking forward to the celebration event in February and to continuing our support throughout the programme.
Project Completion showcase: Northbury SEND Classroom. As winter sets in, we're pleased to announce that we officially handed over the Northbury SEND classroom in time for the Sept term, a carefully considered, technically complex build for the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham , designed to support inclusive education and sensory wellbeing. From the outset, this project stood out. ▪️A distinctive zinc roof. ▪️An exposed timber structure. ▪️A bespoke sensory garden and high-spec internal finishes. All delivered within a live school environment. It’s been a collaborative effort from start to finish, with every detail designed to create a calm, welcoming space where pupils can thrive. Northbury is a place for confidence, calm, and creativity, and we’re proud to have played a part in bringing it to life.
Building more than structures – we’re helping build new beginnings. Auburn Group has partnered with HARP Homelessness Charity , Southend’s leading homelessness charity, to support an exciting new pilot programme: HARP Construct. The initiative helps people who’ve experienced homelessness gain the skills, confidence, and qualifications to build sustainable careers in construction. Why it’s needed: Across the UK, construction faces a major skills shortage – with over 250,000 new workers needed by 2028. At the same time, thousands of people are seeking a way back into stable employment and independence. HARP Construct bridges that gap – giving motivated individuals the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to the industry’s future. Over the next year, two 12-week programmes will help people who’ve previously experienced homelessness gain valuable skills, confidence, and hands-on experience in the construction industry. Each participant is vetted as “ready to work” and supported through tailored training, mentoring, and on-site exposure. Auburn will be contributing by providing: ◾ PPE for participants ◾ Site tours of the Cliffs Pavilion project ◾ Career talks and Q&A sessions ◾ Mock interviews with our teaThis collaboration isn’t about charity – it’s about opportunity.
